I need a puller to pull a A/C pulley to replace the clutch coil. I could use a crow bar, but I want it done right. Plus I can always use it for any pulling I need down the road. Im quite stingy with my money so I choose a couple of good name brand for the prices that im interested in.

EDIT: I bought the Gearwrench one in the case :)

OTC is a great brand. I use their tools at work and never let me down.

Its only a 2 jaw, but has a 6 inch spread.

This is a larger 3 jaw OTC puller. Used but taken care of. Kinda expensive compared to a puller thats new and in a case.

I almost went ahead and purchased this one till I found the next one down. Its only 2 ton rated, no case, but can also be used as a 2-jaw puller if needed. Jaw only spreads out to 5 inches.

This is the one im itching to buy. Love tools that come in a case so I won’t loose any bolts, and keeps the tool clean. It’s like the $30 one, but the jaws spread out to 8 inches and 5 ton rated.

Gearwrench is a great brand IMO. They are the ones that actually make the Craftsman tools and it has a lifetime warranty.

I’ve been pretty satisfied with this:

I have that same set, but broke the big one while trying to free a stuck hub during a wheel bearing job.

But that’s probably not the tool’s fault. I later rented a massive puller from the auto parts store, and could feel it starting to do the same, so I stopped before that happened so I could return it.

I’ve never really had much luck with the legged pullers.

I’ve got a proper bearing removal tool and it’s worked wonders, even though it’s a cheap eBay special (£18).

I’ve also recently bought a 5-ton hydraulic legged puller for £30. I’ve yet to use it but my mate who works on aeroplanes has and he said it’s brilliant :)

And the 3 piece one im looking at is only for $29.99. I have a pair of Tekton screw drivers that are holding up quite well.

I’ll keep it in mind.

The compressor bolts would be in the way of the splitter. Thanks though :)

They also have a 50 ton one if you can’t be arsed enough to remove the nut before giving it a go.

I rarely buy specialty tools like this that will hardly ever be used. Why not rent one from a local parts store and get your money back when you return it? That’s how I roll.

You want an compressor clutch tool not a gear puller.

I have that. Holds the clutch plate while removing the nut and the clutch plate slides out, careful not to lose the shims, then remove the snap ring, remove the pulley (which I need a puller) , another snap ring, and clutch coil.
